How to paint shiny vintage brass lamps; wash the area of the lamp to be painted with warm soapy water. Do not immerse the lamp when you wash it. Rinse off the soap with a clean, damp cloth, and then wipe the lamp. Scuff the surface of the lamp with 220-grit sandpaper. Sand up and down or around the lamp. Cover the bulb socket, light switch, and a 6-inch section of the conduit with painter’s tape. The tape will protect the areas of the lamp, you do not want painted.

After that to paint shiny vintage brass lamps, set the lamp upright and use brown or black spray paint to coat the entire surface of the lamp.
